The district continues the work of improving and expanding the AWSD water and wastewater infrastructure system to meet the needs of the growing Anthony, NM, and Chaparral (Desert Aire) service areas. The following information is provided as a general overview and is subject to change(s) as time and project actions progress.

  1. Wastewater Treatment Plant Expansion/Renovation continues and many underground and above-ground structural improvements are completed or in-progress. This project is funded with grant and loan financing amounting to $37,000,000.00 and supplied by the United State Department of Agriculture - Rural Development Program.
  2. Timbers Addition Waterline Replacement system improvement project is underway with the contractor and district staff completing water main and related system improvements; along with staff replacing water service lines from the new mains to customer’s property improvements. The previously installed water mains and services located in alleys are being abandoned and relocated to the streets fronting customers’ properties. The project includes constructing a 1-million-gallon Storage Tank and South Washington Street Waterline Extensions; and is funded with $4,400,000.00 provided by the North American Development Bank.
  3. The North Area Wastewater Collection System project is funded and acquiring rights-of-way is progressing. Presently, the project funding level is $2,000,000.00 provided by the New Mexico Finance Authority, Colonias Infrastructure Program, and the North American Development Bank.
  4. Desert Aire Phase II Waterline Extensions is a project to provide water mains and services to properties within the service area that do not presently enjoy domestic water service. The New Mexico Finance Authority, Colonias Infrastructure Program has funded $1,355,000.00 for this project.
  5. Anthony Iron & Manganese removal study and facilities improvements project is underway with land acquisition completed. Currently, the New Mexico Finance Authority, Colonias Infrastructure Program has funded $100,000, for the initial phase of this project.
  6. Remote-read Water Meter Replacement Project was recently funded in the amount of $2,710,500.00 by the New Mexico Finance Authority, Colonias Infrastructure Program. This project allows the district to replace remote read meters that have or are failing due to age and battery life exhaustion.
